Jeon Byung Sam is a South Korean contemporary artist known for transforming everyday objects into works of art that offer new visual experiences. He reconfigures ordinary materials using two key techniques: “folding,” which reveals only part of a photographic form and invites viewers to imagine the unseen portions, and “unfolding,” which miniaturizes vast subjects—like maps—into a form that can be fully grasped at a glance. 

His renowned <MOMENT> series features thousands of identical printed photographs folded in half and stacked so that the edges form abstract, stripe-like sculptures. Beyond their visual appeal, these works embody Jeon’s exploration of the concept of “disappearance.” They reflect the fleeting nature of moments that exist only briefly before vanishing, symbolizing the inevitable mortality of all things in nature. The series invites contemplation on the acceptance and understanding of the impossible—an acknowledgment of the limits of human reason.
